Oakville’s Lollipop Art Lounge

Lollipop Art Lounge is located in downtown Oakville at 126 Trafalgar Road.  If you haven’t had the chance to drop in and see their new location, you should!  It is adorable with a little stone patio decorated with flowers and an indoor area with beautiful children’s products and a ‘to die for’ craft area.  It was awesome to be a part of the weekly lollipop summer camps this year. It was my first opportunity to teach children about photography and it was an incredible experience! I began by opening dialogue about photography… what to take photographs of, where to take photographs, how to make images look cool and what to do with them once all is said and done. The questions I asked the kids really had them thinking creatively and they came up with some great suggestions! I emphasized how photographing is like telling stories. One image can become a story all on it’s own or you can create a series of photographs to tell a more detailed story. They loved that! It was extremely cool to be able to show them my work and ask them how it made them feel.. we had some great laughs! For some reason every kiddo has the same reaction to a photograph of mom and dad kissing.. “EEWWWWWW!” :) They loved being able to view slideshows, flip through albums and touch a gallery canvas. Probably the very best part was when I handed over the disposable cameras and let them apply what they had learned from me. You should have seen them all..they really listened to me!!! They were trying different angles.. far away, up close, up high, down low, tilting their cameras! They were trying new ways of interacting with their subject.. completely understanding that you have to relate in a certain manner in order to gain a certain image. They were giving thought to the types of things that struck their eye. It was just awesome! Thank you Lollipop for including me this summer…I’ll be back next year! Here are a few from my final workshop at Lollipop. How much fun are they?!!!  lollipopartlounge.jpg
